Check how your product page is built
Classic themes such as HoverCraft usually display product details in tabs below the summary. HoverCraft may label WooCommerce's Additional Information tab Product Specs, but its key remains additional_information; see WooCommerce Product Pages. The PHP method below applies to classic tabs and legacy Product Details layouts. Current block-theme layouts may use Product Details blocks or accordions instead. See WooCommerce's product tab documentation.
Remove tabs in a classic theme
- Back up your site and test the change on staging before editing PHP.
- Open
wp-content/themes/your-child-theme/functions.phpin your active child theme. If you do not have one, follow Child Themes first. Do not edit the parent theme'sfunctions.php; its changes can disappear during updates. - Paste the snippet below inside the existing PHP code, without adding another
<?phptag. Replacemyshopin both places with a prefix unique to your site. - Save the file, then check several product pages, including products with attributes and reviews.
function myshop_remove_product_tabs( $tabs ) {
unset( $tabs['additional_information'] );
// unset( $tabs['description'] );
// unset( $tabs['reviews'] );
return $tabs;
}
add_filter( 'woocommerce_product_tabs', 'myshop_remove_product_tabs', 98 );
As written, the snippet removes only Additional Information. To remove Description or Reviews too, delete the leading // from the corresponding unset() line. Remove the Additional Information line if you want to keep that tab. The tab keys are description, additional_information, and reviews.
Removing tabs does not delete product descriptions, attributes, or reviews, but shoppers may no longer see that content. Keep essential information visible elsewhere. Removing the Reviews tab does not disable reviews globally; change the review settings separately if that is your goal.
For block themes, edit the product template
In a block theme, open Appearance → Editor → Templates → Single Product. Select the Product Details block or its accordion items and inspect the available controls. Where the template permits it, remove the unwanted item, save, and preview a product page. Some blocks may be locked or arranged differently by the theme; the classic PHP filter is not a universal substitute for editing current Product Details blocks. See WooCommerce's product page customization guide.
If the tab still appears
- No change after saving: Confirm the child theme is active, the snippet has no PHP error, and any page cache is cleared.
- A standard tab remains: Check for theme or plugin code that adds it back after this filter, or a product layout that bypasses classic tabs. Product attributes alone cannot override the removal.
- A custom tab remains: Extensions and themes can register their own tab keys. The snippet above targets only WooCommerce's three standard keys; check the extension's documentation for its tab.
Avoid hiding the tabs with CSS when the goal is to remove them. CSS can leave the underlying markup and content in place. Use the appropriate WooCommerce filter or block-editor control for the layout your site actually uses.
Prefer not to edit PHP files? You can also run the same snippet using a code-snippet plugin such as Code Snippets or WPCode. This avoids editing your theme files, but requires installing and maintaining an additional plugin.
