Hide a WooCommerce product from your shop, categories, and internal search while keeping its published page accessible through the direct URL.

Hide a product using catalog visibility

WooCommerce includes a built-in Catalog visibility setting, so you do not need another plugin for this task. In the standard product editor:

  1. Go to Products → All Products in WP Admin and edit the product you want to hide.
  2. In the Publish panel, find Catalog visibility and click Edit.
  3. Select Hidden, then confirm the selection with OK.
  4. Keep the product's Status as Published and its separate Visibility setting as Public.
  5. Click Update to save the product.

The Hidden option removes the product from normal WooCommerce shop, category, and internal search listings. The individual product page remains accessible by its URL. WooCommerce explains these settings in its official product editor documentation.

To show the product in the shop again, change Catalog visibility to Shop and search, then click Update.

Test the direct product link

Copy the product's permalink and open it in a private browser window where you are not signed in as an administrator. The page should still load. If the product is otherwise purchasable, a customer with that link can normally add it to the cart and place an order.

Next, check the main shop, its product category pages, and your store's search results to confirm the product is no longer listed. Test any custom product grids or search plugins separately, since third-party displays may not follow WooCommerce's standard catalog visibility rules. HoverCraft's WooCommerce Shop layout styles the product grid, while WooCommerce controls which products appear.

Understand the other visibility choices

WooCommerce provides four catalog visibility options. Choose the one that matches where customers should discover the product:

Catalog visibilityWhere the product appears
Shop and searchShop, category pages, and internal search results.
Shop onlyShop and category pages, but not internal search results.
Search onlyInternal search results, but not shop or category pages.
HiddenIts individual product page, reached by direct URL.

Do not confuse Catalog visibility: Hidden with the separate WordPress Visibility: Private or Password protected controls. Those restrict who can view the product content, which defeats the purpose if you want anyone holding the link to open the page.

Know the privacy and search engine limits

A hidden product is unlisted, not secret. Anyone who discovers or receives its URL can visit it, and hiding it from the WooCommerce catalog does not automatically remove it from Google or other external search engines.

If the page must stay accessible but not appear in search results, consider a page-specific noindex setting through your SEO tools. Google's noindex guidance explains the requirement for crawlers to access the page to read that rule. A noindex directive is not access protection: use genuine access restrictions if the product or its details are confidential.

If the result is not what you expected

If the product still appears in the shop, check that Hidden was saved, clear relevant page or search caches, and inspect any custom product listings or plugins. If the direct URL fails, verify the product remains Published and Public, confirm you are using the current permalink, and check whether another visibility or membership rule restricts access.
